Belvoir & Burnhope ‘09 October 24 - 31 Saturday, October 24 Arrive London. You'll be met at the airport and brought (45 minutes) to The Hunter’s Arms, a 16th Century pub hotel near Broomhills, home of gunmakers Atkin Grant & Lang. Dinner tonight, our first together, and breakfast tomorrow will be here in the pub. Sunday, October 25 Those who haven’t brought their own will select guns from the Atkin Grant & Lang gunroom. After shooting a few clays, we’ll drive north about 100 miles to The Olde Barn Hotel in the village of Marston, Lincolnshire, our home for the next three nights. Monday, October 26 Our first big day at Belvoir Castle—350 pheasant and partridge on the estate’s famous drives. Paired guns are recommended; loaders will be provided. Our lunches will be served in the Shoot Room at the Castle. Tuesday, October 27 Our second driven day at Belvoir Castle—also 350 pheasant and partridge. Wednesday, October 28 A travel day. We’ll drive 220 miles farther northeast to County Durham and check into Burnhope Lodge near Burnhope Moor, where we’ll spend three nights. We will be in the North Pennine Hills, a scenic moorland area that is home to many famous grouse shoots. Thursday, October 29 Our first day of driven grouse at Burnhope. The expected bag is 60 brace. Paired guns are recommended here as well, as red grouse are notoriously fast and agile. Loaders will again be provided. Friday, October 30 Our second day of driven grouse at Burnhope. Our deluxe lunches—mid-day meals, actually—will be served in a snug building right at the moor. Saturday, October 31 After a last night at Burnhope Lodge, we’ll return to the airports for flights home or onward. (Please note: Your return flights should be booked for late in the day; it’s a five-hour drive to Heathrow.) For the Non-Shooters: There is much to enjoy at both of our destinations. Do not miss a tour of Belvoir Castle (www.belvoircastle.com), the ancestral home of the Manners family, the Duke & Duchess of Rutland. On any day, partners are welcome to join the Guns in the field; it can be a spectacular experience, and lunches are often memorable all by themselves. A vehicle & driver will be available for local explorations as well, from the Yorkshire Dales to the Scottish Borders. Please Note:Driven days on the Belvoir estate should provide team bags of approximately 350 pheasant and partridge. Burnhope Moor should provide bags of 60 brace (120 grouse) each day. There will be no overage charges, extra fees for more birds, at either place.Appropriate side-by-side or over/under guns, 12- or 20-bore, are required. Pairs are recommended; loaders will be provided. All cartridges are provided. High-quality guns from Atkin Grant & Lang’s gunroom will be available to use at no extra charge.All permits, certificates and licenses are included and we will assist with passage of guns into and out of the UK.The temperature is likely to be 45-50 degrees F and rain is possible any time. The team must be eight guest Guns, with or without non-shooting partners. The hosts are Ken Duglan, managing director of Atkin Grant & Lang, and Silvio Calabi, Shooting Sportsman editor at large. 2. Package price, exclusive of airfares, personal items, and keeper’s and loader’s tips (about £100/day) and non-shooters’ lunches, is £10,350 per couple (Gun and non-shooter, double occupancy). The price for a single Gun is £8,350. The exchange rate presently is about $1.50 = £1. 3. Included: one night at the Hunter’s Lodge, with dinner and breakfast; three nights at the Olde Barn and three nights at Burnhope Lodge (all deluxe rooms with baths en suite) with breakfast, dinner, cocktails & wines; shoot lunches; airport transfers; all activities as outlined, gun permits, high-quality cartridges and all shooting as outlined; and VAT. 4. Getting to and from London will be up to you. The drive between Burnhope Lodge and Heathrow Airport takes about five hours, so please book any onward flights no earlier than late afternoon on Saturday, 31 October. 5. A 50% deposit of £4,175 per Gun or £5,175 per couple is due with your reservation. (The exchange rate now is approximately £1 = $1.50.). The balance is due by September 1, 2009. Credit cards are welcome. Checks should be made out to Kenneth Duglan and sent to Silvio Calabi at 4 Bonnie Brae, Camden, ME 04843. 6. If the shoot fills up before we receive your deposit, your payment will be returned promptly. You will be put on the alternate list and any vacancy will be offered to you. 7. Deposits are non-refundable after July 31, 2009, unless we can fill a cancellation from the alternate list or the trip has to be canceled. We recommend travel insurance. 9. This shoot was created with the help of carefully selected travel, hospitality and shooting professionals, and all reasonable steps have been taken to ensure that proper arrangements have been made. However, neither Ken Duglan nor Silvio Calabi can accept any liability for the actions or omissions of these suppliers, over whom they have no direct control. Please understand also that we have no control over weather, government actions, mechanical breakdowns and the like. Furthermore, we are not responsible for your actions, either. Safety afield is paramount, and we will take any steps necessary to ensure that safety, up to and including barring Guns from the field. 10.
