SHOOTING IN SCOTLAND 2005/6 SEASON

Atkin Grant & Lang operates its own top quality game shoot on the Corsewall Estate near Stranraer in South West Scotland. The estate comprises of over 3,500 acres in the very picturesque peninsular to the west of  Loch Ryan.

Our geographical position at the entrance to the famous Solway Firth affords us some of the very best wildfowl shooting in Scotland. Species of duck include green wing teal, pintail, widgeon, mallard, also pinkfooted and graylag geese.

The shooting is open to individuals or groups of up to 8 guns. Non-shooters are welcome and are provided with a Scottish tour guide and a full personalised program of events.

Accommodation is at the freshly refurbished Fern Hill Hotel, perched high on the cliff tops overlooking the fishing village of Portpatrick. It boasts a first class restaurant, spacious well appointed rooms and fantastic views, making it a perfect base for the shooting party.

DRIVEN DAYS

Following breakfast at 8.00 am we depart the hotel at 9.00 am for the 15 minute drive to the Corsewall Estate where we meet our keeper, pickers up and full team of beaters.

After ‘booting up’ and sorting our gear we look to be on the first drive by 10.00 am. We shoot four drives in the morning before halting for a light lunch at a farmhouse on the estate. The afternoon will be devoted to one of the premier drives of the estate.

We shoot 200-250 mixed pheasant and partridge per driven day.

If conditions are favorable we will then have a short break before setting off for an evening duck flight in the fading light of a wild winter sky.

WALKED UP DAYS

The walked up days are altogether gentlemanly affairs. Walking the hedgerows and rough hollows of gorse and ferns found between the sea and the first cultivated field or standing while the dogs work the ground towards us, you never know if the next shot will be the elusive silent woodcock, a clattering pheasant or the fast brown hare breaking cover at the last second. This is no marathon of endurance; we are after all here to enjoy the day. Our walked up days are 35 to 45 birds that would include, pheasant, partridge, woodcock, snipe, brown hare and rabbit.

We stop at the farmhouse for a light snack before continuing our walk though this magnificent scenery, ending at one of many duck flight ponds on the estate.

After returning to the hotel for a hot shower and a well earned rest we then meet the rest of the party around 8.00 p.m. for dinner and tales of the one that got away or that unbelievable long shot of the day. This is followed by a peaty malt and early bed.

COST

A week of shooting to include three driven days and two walked up days will cost £4,890 per person per week. Non-shooters £1,000 INCLUDED:-
